What Are You Longing For?

Delight yourself  in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 NIV.

Hello friends! Have you been waiting on God to do some things in your life? Not just the day to day things, but those things that  you are really longing for Him to do. The things that only He can do for you. The things that you feel will really set your life in order and make you happy. The things that you begin to obsess about and tend to develope anxiety about because they’re not happening the way you want, or when you want. You question God, and you question yourself. You may even become angry with God and angry at yourself  as to why certain things are not happening in your life.

Well….. no matter what those things are for you, and how you may be feeling about not having them, this scripture is encouraging you to delight yourself in the Lord. What does delighting yourself in the Lord mean? Delight simply means to pleasure yourself. Therefore, delighting yourself in Him means you are living your life to please Him. Pleasing God is the first step in getting your heart’s desire. So ask yourself, Am I delighting myself in You Lord?? Am I living to please Him, or am I living to please myself? Lord are you my one true desire, or do I only want you can give me? Friends, is God truly first, the center, and the foundation of your life? Do you truly want Him more than you want anything else in the world? Are you happy just serving Him even if you don’t get the things that you really want? These are important questions we must ask ourselves before we settle on thinking that God is not answering, or giving us our heart’s desire.

Always remember, God wants to give us what we desire, but will not just give us things because we desire them. Sometimes our heart is not in the right place to handle or receive all He wants to give us. God is not just about satisfying your appitite for things in the moment. He wants to give you long term blessings that will last from generation to generation. On top of that, are you truly ready to handle the responsibilities of things you are asking Him for, or do you just want them because they will make you feel good and look good? To whom much is given much is required. Do not short cut the processing of your heart. Just delight yourself in the Lord no matter how things may look for you right now. Know that God’s plan for you are good plans, and He wants you to have all the blessings He has set for your life, but you must be ready within your heart first.

I want to encourage you today, as I encourage myself. Be patient and wait for Him. Do not take matters into your own hands because you are tired of waiting. You can’t do it for yourself successfully anyway. Trust the process.  As you trust Him, and delight yourself in Him, you will surely experience your desires becoming what He has desired for you. Then blessings- things that grow you and bring you long term success, will begin to unfold in your life like never before. It’s so amazing the things God won’t give to His children when we delight ourselves in Him.

Delight: please greatly yourself in Him; and He WILL give you the desires of your heart.
